Furious mum 'kicked man's head like a football'

A woman kicked a man's head like a football after becoming incensed when he fell down a staircase with his baby daughter in his arms, a court heard today.

Jayne Poole, 22, drunkenly rowed with Gary White, 33, moments before he went to comfort his crying 19-month old daughter at a house in Fir Street, Patricroft, Salford, Manchester Crown Court was told.

Poole had been out drinking before going back to the house with her boyfriend and the victim's partner on the afternoon of July 3 last year.

White slipped down the stairs but the baby was not harmed. However, Poole dragged him outside and threw him on the ground, punching and kicking him.

He got up but Poole followed him and, after finding him sitting on a kerb, punched him in the face and kicked his head with such ferocity that her trainers split.

White was left unconscious and taken to Hope Hospital, but discharged himself two days later. He was readmitted to hospital later that night after suffering headaches and died two days later.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died as a result of developing blood clots and bruising on the brain and a depressed fracture of the skull.

Poole, of Tooley House, Eccles, Salford, was convicted of murder following a trial at Manchester Crown Court. She was sentenced today to a minimum of 12 years in prison.
